Two-Day Top Rope Anchoring Class: Anchoring Fundamentals

This two-day top rope anchoring class is designed to help you gain the skills needed to get out climbing on your own. Focusing on essential techniques like gear selection, guidebook interpretation, and natural anchor construction, this hands-on course provides the foundation for safe and efficient anchor setups. You'll build practical experience in constructing reliable anchors while learning best practices. This course also sets the stage for future advanced skills like learning to lead and gives you a better understanding of what's happening when climbing with others. Perfect for climbers looking to gain independence and strengthen their technical abilities.

This program can also be taken as a Custom Private Day anytime if you prefer not to be matched with others or if the offered group dates don’t work for you.

Quick Overview

Duration: 9am to 4pm

Group Size: Up to 8 (2 minimum for the program to run)

Ratios: 4 guests to 1 instructor. Larger groups will have multiple instructors.

Typical Season: April through November

Skill Level: Appropriate for all levels

Pre-requisites: Some outdoor climbing

Booking Details

    • Your Guide: All of the Guides at Gunks Guides & Climbing School hold a certification from the American Mountain Guides Association and work in the terrain they are certified in.

    • All rock-climbing gear and anchoring materials (shoes, harness, helmet, ropes, etc.)

  • You will meet your guide and get outfitted with any gear needed at The Rock & Snow Annex in New Paltz. You’ll then jump back in your car and drive to the chosen parking area together. Click Here for direction to our meeting locations.
